Dr. Sam LaMunion is a digital health researcher and quantitative physiologist specializing in the measurement of physical behaviors and their impact on cardiometabolic health. He earned his PhD in Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology) from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2020 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), where he worked in the Human Energy and Body Weight Regulation Core.
His research integrates expertise in human energy metabolism, body composition, and high-resolution digital data streams from wearable sensors to characterize physiological processes in both clinical and free-living environments. With additional training in data science, biostatistics, and epidemiology, Dr. LaMunion’s work focuses on harnessing digital health technologies to generate clinically meaningful insights and improve understanding of chronic disease development, particularly in cardiometabolic disorders.
